Micronisation and Infra Red

Micronisation, in food production, refers to the breaking down of starches into sugars and a recently equipped food processing plant is now using infrared to achieve this in a highly efficient and controllable manner.

Infraglo worked with Silvery Tweed to develop a system which uses ten 50kw infra red heaters to heat grain as it passes underneath the burners on a conveyor belt.

Controllability

Micronisation is a very heat sensitive process, so each burner has its own pre-mix sysem, and a sensor at the end the conveyor belt detects the level of infrared and temperature, this information is fed back to a controller which modulates the burners to react within seconds to give the exact temperature required.

Efficiency

As well as quality improvements the process has achieved substantial fuel cost savings during the 12 months since its installation.
